Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First there is an interview to assess level, beginner , intermediate, or advanced.
A program of study will be designed according to each individual.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been teaching for a long time, and have had as many at 50 students per week. I myself have studied with some of America's top guitarists and instructors. I learned by ear, although I later taught myself to read and write music. I toured for many years in a band, and learned hundreds and hundreds of songs.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My studio: $25 per 1/2 hr lesson, $50 per hr
Zoom: same fees as above
Payment by cash, check, Paypal, Venmo, and credit cards
How did you get started teaching?
I was asked to teach by people who heard me playing in my bands and my teaching career took off.
What types of students have you worked with?
Beginning thru advanced
Rock, blues, jazz, some basic classical
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for value. Teaching and playing experience. Location, methods of teaching ( live or online).
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Ask yourself what your goals are. Do you want to be able to play a few chords to accompany yourself singing, or are you interested in play leads? Do you want to be able to play in a band? Rock? Jazz? Blues? Classical? Are you interested in sight reading?
