About

Hello!

I have been playing and performing as a bassist, guitarist, and singer for 15 years. I fell in love with music through songwriting and performing. But through the years I have performed with many different kinds of groups. I specialize in folk, pop, country, funk, and blues. I also offer advanced instruction in jazz guitar. I take a personalized approach to each student. My goal is to help them learn the kind of music they love while gaining an understanding of music theory that can empower them to play by ear, improvise, and even write their own music!

Grant responded quite quickly and was incredibly flexible with timing. Grant is working with my son that has autism and has shown remarkable patience and kindness. We couldnt be happier with the first 4 lessons.

His flexibility in scheduling as well as in what material we’d focus on each week was fantastic. He was very accommodating and knowledgeable of the Guitar. After just a handful of lessons I felt much more confident playing the guitar then I did on my first lesson.

Ive had lessons with Grant for about a year now. Can’t say enough good things about him. He knows music theory inside out, plays beautifully, but more importantly, he can actually teach. Not all good players are good teachers. He is. Highly recommend him for lessons.

Grant is an excellent teacher. Hes very laid-back and friendly, but he is also extremely knowledgeable and helpful. He taught me for 2-3 years, and I still remember the things he taught me and the musical advice he gave me. He even helped me learn some of my favorite songs (which I can still play!). A hundred times over would I recommend Grant as a guitar teacher.

Grant is a fantastic musician. He is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to technique and music theory. This is the baseline for what makes him a good teacher - but what makes him an outstanding teacher is his ability to transfer that knowledge to the student. His patient and direct manner make material accessible. He personalizes lessons, combining student goals and musical interests with tiered learning objectives. Learning from him was super educational, but it was also really empowering and fun. Hands down the best guitar teacher I’ve ever had.

    Frequently asked questions

If the student is a beginner, my main goal is to help them get over the initial hump of learning to hold down the frets and learn the rhythm of strumming. I also like to find out what inspired them to learn guitar and what kind of music they enjoy.

for someone who already has a bit of experience, I want to assess their skill level then give them exercises and songs to practice that will stretch their abilities. I also like to try and expose them to music and guitarists that will inspire them!

My first teaching experience was in high school. I was contacted by some parents who knew that i played guitar and asked my to teach their kids. Since then, I have worked at a guitar lessons studio, taught in-home lessons, and taught in my private studio.

I have worked with all ages. From kids as young as 8 to adults.

Do I have time to practice throughout the week in between lessons?

What styles of music do I want to learn?

What made me interested in learning guitar?
