Andrea Peters Piano And Trumpet Lessons
About
I have been playing piano for over 25 years and teaching for about 8. I have played the trumpet for over 20 years and taught for 3. I studied music education and trumpet with renowned performer Chris Gekker.
I truly care about my students' success and want to help instill a lifelong love of music.
I have taught students ages 4-adult, beginner-intermediate. Lessons are done at my house on a weekly basis. In addition to playing, time is spent learning music theory.
I received numerous awards in piano competitions, as well as college scholarships in trumpet. I was accepted into the highly competitive University of Maryland music program in trumpet.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First I evaluate any prior experience they have by asking them to play something for me. If the student is brand new to their instrument we will jump right in and start learning the very basics, including the layout of the piano, finger numbers, and basic rhythm patterns and notes. For the adult student we learn these things at a faster pace with more information presented in each session.
Students with experience will will begin ffilling in any gaps I see in their technique and skill set. In addition, new repertoire will be chosen and started.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Lessons in both piano and trumpet for a combined total of over 30 years, with some of the area's best teachers.
Studied music education at the University of Maryland.
Maryland State Music Teacher's Association music theory tests through level 9.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Yes. For one half hour lesson per week (suggested for beginners under the age of 10) the price is $100/month, regardless of any months with 5 lessons or cancelled lessons by the student. If I must cancel, an effort will be made to reschedule. If this is impossible, a refund will be issued in the form of a discount the following month.
For one 45 minute lesson per week, the price is $150/month, with the same policy as mentioned above.
How did you get started teaching?
My mother is a local piano teacher and under her tutelage I started my first students at the age of 13.
Since then I have taught hundreds of children and adults in various subjects, including martial arts, dance, cheerleading, band classes, and in both one on one and group settings.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with elementary school and middle school students, college students, and adults, beginner through intermediate.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Are you willing to commit to practicing your instrument every day? Lessons will progress very slowly or not at all if you aren't willing to practice at home on your own.
How serious are you about a thorough education? Do you want to just play for fun, or are you interested in entering local competitions and taking part in theory exams?
