Bowie Piano & Spanish Lessons
About
I immensely enjoy teaching piano lessons and Spanish. I have been teaching piano lessons for 8 years. I have a comprehensive program. Students will learn songs, scales, arpeggios, harmonization, improvisation, chords/cadences and ear training. Each year students participate in piano parties, theory exams, keyboard exams, chamber festival, recitals and perform for community events throughout the year. It's time well-spent!! Spanish lessons include grammar and mostly listening and conversation. Lessons are designed for students to learn to speak and understand the language rather than only master grammar. Students will complete grammar assignments, listen to stories and converse using conversations from the stories. Then students will answer questions in Spanish. It's fun!! If you call, please leave a message.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First we begin with talking about what it means to be committed and how the students can be most successful. Once student has agreed to do their best and parent to be supportive we begin the first lesson. I will ask the student "Do you see the pattern of black and white keys on the piano?" Then, "please play a set of two black keys on the piano..."
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Piano lessons, dual degree in Music Performance and General Music, aobut 10 years of experience
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
30 Minute lessons once a week are $125/month
45 minue lessons once a week are $155/month
How did you get started teaching?
I've been teaching classroom music for about 14 years. Around my 3rd year of teaching my students began asking me to teach them how to play the piano. I could not find any piano teachers in the area so I started teaching them what I knew. I loved it and the students kept coming. I did some piano lessons of my own from a master and the studio has continued to grow. I have had up to 29 students.
What types of students have you worked with?
children and adults, male and female.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Each June we have our end of the year recital. Students dress up nice, parents bring a dish and I present the awards that students have earned throughout the year. This year one of my students who rebelled for about the first 2 years of her tutilage received the highest score on her Guild Audition Certificate of any student in the studio. That is quite an accomplishment for her and quite rewarding for her mom!!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The teacher should be caring towards others and knowlegable about playing and teaching the instrument. Someone who can play the instrument is not always good at teaching someone else to play the instrument. Examine how well the students of that teacher perform.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Have they done everything the teacher told them to do during their practice time.
