Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The process differs from student to student. We dont use same approach for all students. The younger ones who are just introduced into music or learning piano are introduced into songs playing while we try to give them the right approach to right fingering, finger flexibility and right posture on the piano. The older ones are introduced to basic chords, accidentals, arpeggios. These are immediately applied even though it may be slow, but progress is guaranteed if this pattern is followed. We also switch between learning to read music and understanding the flow of the music you are playing to enjoy it
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I trained under great pianist seun owoaje who is a composer, a jazz and classical pianist. I attended piano, voice and music classes at muson centre under the tutelage of great teachers there. I took few classes from babatunde Sosan who is also a great classical pianist. Asides music, I studied mathematics/statistics.
How did you get started teaching?
Well, music has always been a passion. Therefore, making a difference with what I have learnt in music pushed me to teaching.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with young children and mature adults.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A Christmas performance by one of students in his church
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Music is a journey that needs to be enjoyed. Every stage should be celebrated. We try to make a big deal out of everything you learn. Apply whatever you learn. Dont wait till you play the difficult pieces before you start enjoying your learning.
