About
I am dual certified in music performance and special education, which enables me to be sensitive to students' unique learning modalities. Adults as well as children can benefit from piano lessons. Music has been shown to be linked to high academic achievement in children. Research has also shown that studying music, whether choral or instrumental, as an older adult, has a significant impact on increased levels of Human Growth Hormone, which shows the adverse effects of aging. I always seek to work with students at their own speed and comfort level, all the while encouraging them to achieve their personal goals as well as an appreciation of music.
I have been teaching piano to children as well as adults for over 30 years. My under-graduate degree is in Music Performance from the University of Maryland, and I have a masters degree in Special Education from Western Maryland College. I have served as organist/choir director for my church for 17 years. Additionally, I sing in two local choral groups, and am an active member of the Frederick County Music Teachers Assn.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Typically I invite a new student and their parents to my studio to get to know one another. At that time I share my policy with the parent, and complete a brief interview with the perspective student. I also ask that the student bring a piece to play. If the student is new to piano lessons, I may do some rhythmic patterns with them, as well as some fun piano exercises.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My piano study began at the age of 10. I continued my studies through high school and college, graduating with a degree in Music Performance. I have been teaching private piano for well over 30 years.
