About

I am dual certified in music performance and special education, which enables me to be sensitive to students' unique learning modalities. Adults as well as children can benefit from piano lessons. Music has been shown to be linked to high academic achievement in children. Research has also shown that studying music, whether choral or instrumental, as an older adult, has a significant impact on increased levels of Human Growth Hormone, which shows the adverse effects of aging. I always seek to work with students at their own speed and comfort level, all the while encouraging them to achieve their personal goals as well as an appreciation of music.

I have been teaching piano to children as well as adults for over 30 years. My under-graduate degree is in Music Performance from the University of Maryland, and I have a masters degree in Special Education from Western Maryland College. I have served as organist/choir director for my church for 17 years. Additionally, I sing in two local choral groups, and am an active member of the Frederick County Music Teachers Assn.

My son studied with Christine for about 18 months. He LOVED going to his lessons! He told me that she is really nice and made him feel good about his progress. He also said that she would joke around with him (he loves jokes and puns). From my perspective, as his mom, I could see that Christine achieved that balance between encouraging my son to reach higher goals, but with out pressuring him too much. The only reason we had to stop going to Christine for lessons was that we moved! My son continued piano lessons for 5 more years and has become very accomplished at piano. He now plays piano in a youth Jazz band, and composes pieces that he plays at concerts. We miss Christine!

I have been a student of Mrs. Christine for the past 8 years and I have loved every minute of it! She is an incredible teacher who is not only very knowledgeable about music but also encouraging and kind, seeking to instill the same level of passion she has for piano in her students. Mrs. Christine is hands down one of the best people and teachers out there and I feel blessed to call her my teacher.

Both of my sons have taken piano lessons with Christine. She was able to schedule their lessons back-to-back on the same day for our convenience. Christine was a very patient teacher (especially when the kids didnt practice as much as they should!) and my boys loved taking lessons from her. Both of them progressed very quickly under Christines instruction; she is a very effective piano teacher. I loved how she handled recitals - they were held twice a year (Winter and Spring), and were small, intimate events in her home, with refreshments afterwards. Christine was friendly, patient, professional, and effective. I would highly recommend her as a piano instructor.

Frequently asked questions

Typically I invite a new student and their parents to my studio to get to know one another.  At that time I share my policy with the parent, and complete a brief interview with the perspective student.  I also ask that the student bring a piece to play.  If the student is new to piano lessons, I may do some rhythmic patterns with them, as well as some fun piano exercises.

My piano study began at the age of 10.  I continued my studies through high school and college, graduating with a degree in Music Performance.  I have been teaching private piano for well over 30 years.

My fees are as follows:

$25.00/30-minute lesson

$37.50/45-minute lesson

$50.00/60-minute lesson
