John Horst has had a long career in regular piano performance, solo accompaniment, and choral/voice accompaniment. He has created many transpositions, compositions, and arrangements for piano, voice, and other instruments. John has a bachelors degree in music from the Univ of Md College Park. Janet Horst is part of Studio Cantabile. She is a 20 year veteran music educator, and has written her own music training curriculum for K-8th grade. She provides theory instruction and beginning piano for Studio Cantabile. John is currently teaching 7 piano students of varying ages.

We ask new students a series of questions to discover their interests relevant to piano/voice/music study. We then listen to the student perform whatever pieces they might want to play/sing, or show us arrangements/compositions they have created.

Tuition reserves the student’s scheduled lesson day & time and is not a fee for service. Payment is due, even if the student misses the lesson. It is payable monthly, or by the semester, online (at studiocantabile.org, but not yet available as of Sept 5, 2016) or by check. Lessons missed by the instructors are always made up or will be credited so that the monthly rate for each 45-minute lesson missed will be reduced by $32, and the monthly rate for each 30-minute lesson missed will be reduced by $22. Tuition can be paid monthly, per semester, or per year:

Piano students must be at least 6 years old. Voice students must be at least 15 years old. All lessons will be 45 minutes long, except for 30-minute lessons for younger beginning students. One lesson per month will be dedicated to music theory lessons, which will also involve homework.

Janet has taught beginning/intermediate piano and voice students since she was in high school, and she continued teaching individual piano/voice lesson, with John teaching the more advanced piano students. Janet has been a music educator all her adult life. She has written her own music education curriculum and has directed various choirs and orchestras.

Studio Cantabile is capabile to instruct beginning to advanced piano, voice, piano accompaniment, music studio recording, improvisation, arrangements, and composition.

Not necessary, since Studio Cantabile instructors ask a series of questions that reveal student interests, requirements, and expectations.
