About
I am a highly experienced, qualified teacher who uses many techniques, materials, and styles of music to reach my students at all learning levels and abilities. I teach in my Bethesda home, or travel to the homes of my students, both children and adults, throughout Bethesda, Potomac, Chevy Chase, and DC, NW. I utilize a variety of materials, catered to the needs of the student, including the use of Russian methods, when appropriate, and incorporate theory, technique, and ear training into the lessons. I strive to develop the imagination, artistry, and musicality of my students, as well as the technical skills. I also use a variety of genres of music, again, catered to what makes the student come alive. I offer preparation for The Royal Conservatory of Music Program, a series of performance assessments designed to motivate students by striving for national standards. I have been teaching piano for over 20 years. Since I am a member of the Maryland State Music Teachers Association and Washington Music Teachers Association, my students have participated in WMTA recitals, Maryland state theory and keyboard exams and festivals, the Rockville Competition, and Gottleib Competition, where they have won awards. In addition, I hold a recital twice yearly. I have a Master of Music from Westminster Choir College, Princeton, NJ, and a Bachelor of Music in education from Bowling Green (Ohio) State University. What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students as young as 4, all the up to adults who were either beginners or returning to piano studies.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise that you find someone with the appropriate educational background, and the passion to teach you or your child. It is very important that a highly skilled teacher creates a strong foundation, and knows how to create that foundation without frustrating or turning off the student.
