Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First I try to understanding your reason for wanting to box or get fit in order to best meet that need, I then aim to assist you to learn the basics of boxing (if you are new to the sport), teach you in a way that you can self correct i.e. If you desire I can use pictures and video's that you can use to self correct. Work on your fitness levels and general conditioning. I work to your level and encourage you to improve stage by stage. I make our sessions fun as laughting is super healthly too.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a certified level 1 boxing coach with USA boxing which guides up to Olympic standards. Boxing is in my blood as I grew up with my father running a boxing gym in London, England. I've been involved in boxing for almost 30 years so I've trainned in various gyms internationally in the US, England and Germany. I've even trained in the same gym as the former English Heavyweight champion of the world Lennox Lewis. In boxing the greatest education is really practical therefore in the ring during competition is the highest level of real education and this is where I won a London championship in my weight division. I've trained people in various settings such as boxing gyms, community centers, schools, youth clubs with large groups and one 2 one private lessons at the customers home and at my gym.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Yes! I do have a standard pricing system which I am prepared to discuss at anytime. I'm proud to say I currently have a great successs rate of customers continuing lessons after their first session.
How did you get started teaching?
While I was still competing my coach would ask me to help out with other fighters with road work, circuit traning, techical skills, shadow boxing, bag work and sparing. It felt natural to teach that which I had learned and I found a great joy in seeing others progress based on my help.
What types of students have you worked with?
Adults and chldren both male and female. Those who have never boxed all the way up to those who have started careers in boxing and other combat sports.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I’m looking forward to the biggest fight in boxing between Errol Spence Jr & Terrace Crawford. No contract has been signed yet but it’s what boxing purest would love to see. It’s a modern Sugar Ray Leonard v Thomas Herns.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Based on what you've read, whom do you feel most comfortable with? Can this coach help me to fullfill that which I desire to achieve in boxing or fitness? .......Then.....there's nothing to it but to do it! Paper, profiles and words can only go so far, so once you've done some research give it a try as there is nothing that beats the actual practical experience.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What is your aim or goal for boxing or fitness i.e. health, confidence, strength, fun, competition, protection etc. How much do you value boxing lessons and what is your budget for each lesson and is this budget fixed or flexable? What is the ideal location? What is your personality and which coaches personality would best suit you? Remember you're in full control as the final decison is with you.
Best of luck!
