About this pro

Yves Obadia - Guitar
I graduated from Berklee College of Music in 1985 and I have worked as a guitarist in a wide range of styles, as well as a free-lance composer/arranger. I collaborated with guitarist Scott Woody, pianist/composer Frank Amsallem and multi-instrumentalist Mino Cinelu. In recent years, I have concentrated mostly on teaching. Some of my former students include award-winning recording artists such as Del Marquis (lead guitarist for "Scissor Sisters") and Kevin Lenear (of the "Mighty Mighty Bosstones"), as well as young talented Glen Ridge/Montclair and vicinity residents, some of whom are now pursuing degrees and careers in Music, and others of whom are pursuing music as a serious hobby. I have been teaching guitar at the RAS Discovery program and all levels of guitar and Rock Band at the Glen Ridge Summer Music & Art Academy since 2005.

My 14 year old son Andrew began taking guitar lessons with Yves in 2014 and it has been truly a pleasure. Yves is talented, knowledgeable and incredibly patient - even when my 10 year old son and I sit in on lessons to learn a thing or two about a song Andrew is working on. Andrew has learned a great deal from him, but more than this, Yves is now like a member of our family.

I loved my guitar lessons with Yves and my son loves his bass guitar lessons as well. Yves has a proven approach to getting and keeping students engaged throughout the year with some progressively visible improvement to the song playing and various techniques. I started guitar as a beginner with Yves at about 40 years old and am still playing several years later. I love knowing i can play or learn any song i want thanks to Yves and enjoy playing with friends and family around. Truly an invaluable experience learning with Yves and invaluable skill being able to pick up a guitar and entertain myself or a group of people

My daughter started taking guitar lessons with Yves when she was in first grade (she is now in 9th grade). Yves’ passion for music, his talent as a musician, and his patience as an instructor is unparalleled. We can not recommend him highly enough.
