I came to Cecelia as an older student to prepare for a role in a community theater production, hoping to add a note or two to the top of my range. I got much, much more than that from our time together. In addition to technique I also learned valuable lessons about my vocal anatomy, mindset, performance and audition tips and most importantly gained a lot more confidence try things I had not previously dared. Cecelia is a wealth of knowledge, endlessly entertaining and a great person to have in your corner!

Acting the song and vocal technique are equally important and equally focused on in lessons with Cecelia. It can sometimes be hard to find a teacher/coach who will continue to work on both no matter the skill level.

Cecelia Stearman is hands down the finest voice teacher I’ve ever worked with. Quite simply, she’s the total package: a wonderful pianist and accompanist (although she sometimes prefers students get a separate accompanist for more formal recitals so she is free to be in an artistic direction position), a brilliant and accomplished opera singer and oratorio singer, speaker of/expert in several languages including French, German, Italian, Latin, and more. If musical theatre, character work, belt, jazz standards are more your thing than classical or art songs, she can help you stretch your muscles and develop new skills and confidence in those areas.
Cecelia is exceptionally patient and is committed to helping her students find and perfect their true voice healthily and correctly.
Some of the best years of my life were spent singing with and for Cece. On top of all her teaching and singing skills, she is a delightful person. Working with her is energizing and inspiring. The gifts she has and passion for music she passes on to her students.
Since she moved, I have since been trying to find a voice teacher that comes close to matching her in talent and range. She set the bar incredibly high!

Lessons with Cecelia changed my life. I studied with her for about 8 years until she moved to NYC. From her, I learned to sing styles from opera to rock, and had lots of successful auditions. Lessons were always supportive and I looked forward to being there. It’s fantastic that she plays piano and can accompany, and she became a great friend as well as a great teacher. Highest recommendation!!!

    Frequently asked questions

I have a lesson in which I determine what needs to be done.  The student usually leaves with 3 things that will be first priority and each week we add to that.

I have a Masters Degree in Vocal Performance and have sung in many countries.
