My experience learning and teaching music throughout my life has been extremely diverse, spanning many different subjects and disciplines. Outside of my main craft as a guitarist, I know how to play many other instruments such as piano, electric bass, upright bass, drumset, percussion, ukulele, tuba, trumpet, trombone, baritone sax, alto sax and many others. I use these skills as a teacher in order to better understand my students' needs and talents. I also have a very thorough knowledge of music theory and ear training, which have proven helpful while teaching in the past.
In addition to my theoretical understanding of music, I have an extensive background in music technology. I have done live sound for many bands, theater productions and corporate events. I have experience producing, recording, mixing and mastering music. If you or your child are passionate about any of these subjects, I would love to help explore those interests.

I typically start by asking the student about their musical interests. If they have a particular song that they want to learn or an artist that they enjoy, it can help kickstart the learning process to explore that interest. I find that students who have fun with the first lesson are more likely to continue playing and learning.
I will also ask a new student about their prior musical experience. If I can gauge their ability to read music and play other instruments, I can cater the first lesson to their individual needs.
