Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
A new student will come in and elaborate on their musical interests and goals. We'll create a curriculum that centers your objectives and blend core skills with customized classes that dissect and break into skill sets (ear training, sight reading, tabs ) and learn your favorite songs right away. These lessons are designed to be fun and engaging and also challenging. You will learn what is happening behind the notes (music theory) as well as any song/material you would like to work on. These lessons are 100% about you and your musical objectives.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been teaching guitar for over fifteen years to all different age groups and skill levels. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in composition, media writing & production, contemporary guitar and American song writing from the University of Miami Frost School of Music. I Have taught at the Calhoun School and ComeJoinTheBand in New York City and have shifted focus to private lessons and media writing for Film and TV.

How did you get started teaching?
I've always been a dedicated guitar player and eventually began teaching when friends would come up to me asking for private lessons. I found explaining concepts and songs to them to be really rewarding and seeing a student improve inspired me to start teaching professionally.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with students 4-65+, some have been very advanced, and others complete beginners. I work with all styles of music and each student has improved greatly in the direction that they aspire to grow.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher who suites your needs. Look for a consumate professional with a broad knowledge of music and various genres.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What do I want to learn? As a student you'll want to set your own personal musical goals. Ask yourself Who are your favorite musicians? Where skills do you want to work on?
Will my teacher inspire me? Will they keep it interesting and challenging for me? How do I get to my goal? Will this instructor help me get there? Know what your inclinations will be and work to achieve your goals.
