My goal as a teacher is to learn each student to be able to give quality information and tools to grow in their art. It is very important that my students feel comfortable and grow in a safe environment. In this way they are able to give their best with no limits. I have had students go from very shy to singing in front of other people confidently.
We cover a multitude of things in our lessons. Proper breathing, projection, confidence and knowledge of music and the voice are the main struggles I see for students. There are many ways to explore music and to explore your own art. There are many ways to grow and stretch as an artist. I take the time to explore the best way to do that with each student.
Teaching in person and online gives me the ability to help more students and gives them the ability to learn in the comfort of their home. I have been teaching for 5 years now and I love every minute of it.
I truly enjoy watching my students grow in their art and in thir confidence. I love to be able to give them insight and tools to help them. Seeing them overcome obstacles and learn to hone their craft brings me joy. Helping my sttudents succeed is success for me.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
In lessons, I set the tone for a caring and safe space to truly grow fearlessly. It is important to grow in confidence in your craft. In lessons, we cover setting a foundation first. This may include learning about different genres, confidence, warm-up exercises, then we grow into vocal techniques, ear training, music theory, harmony, performance techniques, audition preparation, range, improvisation, agility, freedom and more. We focus on a few things at a time and then the students grows into other areas to work.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a music degree from Berklee College of Music. I have been studying music and music throry since I was a child in primary school. I have been teaching music since 2014. I have taught music in a school setting, in aftercare programs, in a church setting and in community events. I have taught and worked with ensembles, choirs, small groups, and on-on-one private lessons in person and online - all age groups.
How did you get started teaching?
My first experience in teaching was at my college's afterschool program. I provided one-on-on lessons and ensemble group instruction. After this I began to teach my friends at school one-on-one and my friends began to recommend me to their friends. The network grew and grew and I began putting more effort into gaining more students as my love for it also grew.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with small children at the young age of 3 up to the elderly. I have worked with students with disabilities. I have worked with mutliple types of personalities and charater traits.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am very fond of teaching piano to a particular special elderly person. This person has gone their whole life wanting to learn piano and I was able to teach them. Even though they wanted to learn they were also fearful of learning something new, but they overcame that fear everyday as we had our lessons and they practiced. I am so proud of them as they continue to learn and grow.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise them to explore music on your own as well as with an instructor. It is very important rto find an teacher that you both fit well with each other so that you can be comfortable with being uncomfortable with what you are learning. Learning something new isn't always comfortable and you have to be okay with that. The teacher and the student should also be patient with the growth of the student. Give your best, work hard at it and actually practice. Join a choir, and ensemble, tryout for a performance; anything that will help move you forward. You will see much growth when you are consistently practicing.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What styles would I like to learn about or focus in? What kinds of things do I want to learn? What kind of teacher do I want? What information do I alread know? What are my strengths and weaknesses?
