Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I usually assess each student's (or their parent's) goals at our first lesson to find out what they are most interested in learning on their instrument. Then I listen to them play or sing to determine where we need to start. We'll learn and do some basic warm-up exercises and play or sing through something they already know. Then we'll get to work on improving skills and working on a song or piece of music they would love to learn!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Berklee College of Music graduate, vocal performance and professional music.
Stage performer including gigs at Vegas casinos, lounges, Fremont Street and Star of the Desert Arena.
Self produced 4 independent albums in Los Angeles. Owner of project studio for film and TV music in Los Angeles.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$40/half hour. Discounts for hour long lessons pre-paid at the beginning of the month.
How did you get started teaching?
I was performing nightly in Vegas when a friend asked me to take over her students because she was pregnant. I started with two afternoons a week and grew into teaching 6 days a week full time! I love teaching and seeing my students get better every week! It's very rewarding as a musician to inspire the next generation of talented musicians!
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with ages 4 to 75, people at all different levels from beginners to seasoned performers who come to me to gain the skills you can only attain at a top notch music college. I also have many students who are vocalists who want to learn to play and sing at the same time. One of my students has even landed on America's Got Talent and performed live at Radio City Music Hall!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I just saw Lady Gaga at the T Mobile Arena a few weeks ago. What a stunning show. Everything, from her singing, to the band, to the incredible stage was really impressive!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone who loves teaching and really knows how to communicate with you. Half of learning anything well is having a teacher who can really explain the method properly. Also look for someone who asks YOU to play during most of your lesson. If your teacher is playing during your whole lesson, you aren't learning!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are your goals? What styles of music do you love? Can you commit to practicing? Which instrument most excites you?
