About

My teaching approach: My approach to teaching is student-focused and student-lead. The student tells me what they want to learn and I give them the fundamentals needed to do what they want to do. I do not push my own agenda in any way which is what helps to keep my students engaged and interested in their lessons. As for my own personal experience, I have been playing professionally since 1994, performing at many live events, as well as playing on various studio records. I currently play out live about 350 times per year. I have taught guitar since 1996, teaching hundreds of students of all ages and experience. My influences are: As a guitar player I have been heavily influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, Buddy Guy, Wes Montgomery, Eddie Hazel, Mike McCready, Dimebag Darrel, and Billy Gibbons among a host of others. As a bassist, I have been influenced by Stanley Clarke, Rob DeLeo, Bootsy Collins, Flea, Cliff Burton, and Nathan East. My guitar lessons take place in: The teacher's studio or the student's home Guitar Lessons with me take place in the following areas: I give lessons at the students' home or office. Techniques: Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar, Open tuning, Vocal Accompaniment, Performance, Improvisation, Jamming Skills, Reading Music, Music Theory, Scales and Exercises, Song Writing, Recording and Production, Guidance In Equipment Selection Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following: In a first lesson I find out about the student; what do they want to learn, why do they want to play guitar, what kinds of things do they know already, what bands/music do they like listening to, etc. Once I have this info, I am able to begin crafting that lesson, and future lessons. A guitar lesson with me might entail the following: I would ask the student what they want to learn in a very general sense, then I would lay out the ground work and "road map" for them to be on their way to learning exactly that thing. The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following: My ideal guitar student would be someone who loves the guitar and has a true desire to get better at it. This includes a willingness to practice extensively on their own time as well as paying close attention in the lessons. They ask a lot of questions; this is a sure way to know that they are truly trying to absorb the information.

The thing I enjoy the most about teaching is hearing my students build their own style, and hear the creative things that they come up with.

Frequently asked questions

When I work with a new student, the first thing I like to do is talk with them about their short and long term goals? Why do they want to learn the instrument? From there, I can figure out what to teach them, and how.

I got started teaching because I was stand out guitar player from a young age. People would see me perform at shows and ask if I taught lessons. After a while, I decided to give it a try, and loved it.

I have worked with every type of student you can image. I have worked with young and old alike, beginners to advanced, and in all genres.
