Jake is an excellent guitarist and very patient and knowledgeable as a teacher. I am pinching myself at the enormity of the improvement I’ve made since I began taking lessons from Jake. It is obvious that Jake cares deeply about his students, encouraging and pushing them (well me really) so that every lesson has at least one good take away to work on. I am extremely fortunate to have found Jake and I strongly recommend him to anyone wanting to learn the guitar.

Ive been working with Jake for about a year and a half, his lessons have been great for developing both a playing technique for and an understanding of the music Im pursuing. His lessons are always a good opportunity to troubleshoot areas of improvement, get input on playing/practicing, and to just learn new music. I think Jakes instruction would benefit players of a variety of experience and interests.

    Frequently asked questions

Every student is different, but with beginning students I like to go over the names of the strings, how to hold the instrument, how to play with a pick and/or fingerstyle. With intermediate and advanced students I can go in depth on topics such as advanced harmony, melodic and chordal improvisation, jazz theory and songwriting.

I have been teaching private guitar lessons for years, as well as taught improvisation classes and ran student ensembles at music camps/workshops and worked with rhythm sections at middle and high schools.

First lesson special: in-person 30 minute session for $45.

I started teaching guitar lessons in middle school to both students and teachers after school. Eventually I branched out and stated teaching more private lessons and well as music workshops at schools.

I have worked with students of all ages from all levels.

When looking for a teacher, you want someone who will cater to your specific needs. Talk to them and have them help you create a plan to get you the information you need to succeed. it is also important to know the teacher can demonstrate the concepts, not just explain them. I have a Youtube video of my band in my bio so you can see if I know what I'm talking about or not!

Think about the amount of time you will put in to practicing as well as how seriously you want to take music. There are levels to music, just like anything else. I will help you create an individual plan for your growth at your own pace.
