About
Ursula?
An energetic spirit with an empathetic nature, Ursula Seymour is a singer/songwriter with an authentic new sound that is soulful yet delicate. Hailing from Mount Kisco, New York, and blossoming in Brooklyn, Ursula’s just trying to be a sunbeam. Regina Spektor, Ben Folds, John Mayer, YEBBA, and Frankie Cosmos inspire her and her sound.
A Cappella Things
During college, Ursula had the pleasure of singing with the silly, talented, and hardworking a cappella group the NYU Mixtapes. She loved being their assistant music director for two years. Ursula will always be so proud of when The Mixtapes became ICCA Quarterfinal champions in 2016 after countless hours of hard work and dedication. Even further back, Ursula's singing and arranging roots took hold in Foxappella, the ambitious student-led treble group at Fox Lane High School that rocked out on Lady Gaga and Adele songs.
Disclaimer

I love helping singers build confidence. Students often don't realize how much talent they actually have, even if they haven't taken a lesson before. I like to hype people up to get them to embrace their voice and style, and I always enjoy seeing them start to really rock out and shine when they feel more confident!!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
If the student comes to me with goals in mind, we will come up with the priorities for the lessons and structure based on that! Experience level is taken into consideration as well. I like to start with the basics, and if the student is progressing at a fast rate we can reassess and work on more advanced material.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Vocal Performance study at NYU Steinhardt; Bachelor of Music in Music Business degree. Ukulele Club president 2010-2012.
Assistant Music Director of competitive a cappella group the NYU Mixtapes. Created custom arrangements year-round. President/arranger for Foxappella (high school treble group).

In arranging lessons, you will learn how to dissect the music from any song and turn it into a choral piece for multiple voices.
In order to produce sheet music for your arrangements, some music theory knowledge is preferred. We can also arrange by ear.
Rates:
$35 for 45 minutes
$40 for 60 minutes
You can view examples of my arranging work on my public Noteflight page.
How did you get started teaching?
I have been a performer all my life, and I realized after getting out of college that I have many unique things to teach people from that experience!
What types of students have you worked with?
8-year olds at an enrichment summer camp, Midde schoolers at Sing for Hope, High Schoolers in Pelham, New York, college students. Truly people of all ages and experience levels.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
At International Ivy Enrichment Camp this past summer I was brought on to teach my own a cappella 101 course for kids! My 8-year old girls and I sang an arrangement of Don't Worry, Be Happy. It was very sweet and they had amazing pitch. We had a blast being silly and interpreting music through our bodies!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Hire someone fun. Looking forward to lessons gives you the boost you need to keep practicing and stick with it! Plus, don't you want to enjoy learning something that brings you joy without stress?!
P.S. I am fun.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Don't think too much. Talk it through with me and we'll figure out goals that work for you. :)
