ABOUT
Teaching from my Beavercreek, OH home on a 5'11" Steinway grand piano, I offer 30, 45, and 60 minute lessons to a variety of levels and age groups. If you're interested in piano lessons for yourself or your child, contact me to set up a meeting. We’ll discuss your goals, past experience, and music books, as well as have a shortened trial lesson (free of charge).
ATMOSPHERE
How many people do you know who “gave up” on piano due to frustration or too much pressure? I believe students should learn in an encouraging, low-stress environment. Each student has a unique learning style, and I strive to tailor my teaching style according to each student's needs. Whether you want to become a concert pianist, play for your church, or even play for your own enjoyment, I believe the joy of learning any musical instrument lies in the journey.
REPETITIVE STRAIN INJURIES
My goal is for you or your child to play beautifully and safely. I once underwent 9 months of physical therapy for a repetitive strain injury caused by overuse of my wrists in computer work and piano practice. I have learned how invaluable good posture, body position, stretches, and strengthening exercises are both at and away from the piano.
Most musicians don’t think of themselves as athletes, but they should. How many pro athletes would work out for an hour without stretching first, or ask their bodies to perform at a level they haven't trained for? And yet so many musicians sit down at their instrument and start playing, often for hours, and expect their muscles to perform fluidly and accurately without having properly prepared them.
I emphasize proper technique at the piano, and will teach you stretches and strengthening exercises both to prevent and correct bad habits.
