About

I focus on helping my students learn to love playing the piano even if that means slowing down the progress they are making. I focus on making sure the student isn't overwhelmed and understands what is being taught. I also have a rewards system called "piano bucks" to help encourage my students to practice. The more they practice, the more "bucks" they earn and the more goodies they can buy from my little store.

Frequently asked questions

The first lesson is mostly a get to know you lesson where I will evaluate the reading ability and musical knowledge of the new student. I will explain what is expected in practicing and how my rewards system works. The rest of the lesson will be spent playing a variety of different song samples to verify what level the student will start in.

10 years of personal piano lessons

bachelped degree in psychology-which helps me understand how the age of my students affects their ability to learn and progress

$15.00 for a half an hour in my home lesson

i was living in Chicago and after my son turned a year old I wanted to start doing something to help out my family financially and also wanted to start sharing my love for music with others.

i have worked with a very wide range of students of many ages. The youngest I will teach is a six year old out of kindergarten. In my opinion though the best age to start boys is around 8 and girls around 7. I have had several ADHD and autistic students. I've also worked with high anxiety students and exrememly shy students.

every spring I host a piano festival in April where my students prepare 2 songs including memorizing them and then they perform them before a judge to be scored. I also am doing a duet recital this summer which I am very excited about. In October I hold a Halloween recital where the students play Halloween sounding songs and everyone dresses up in costume. Then in December I hold a Christmas recital.

find a teacher that matches your desires for your student. If you want your student to be pushed to the limit and to develop quickly and play stunningly beautiful music I am not the teacher for you. But if you are looking for a teacher who will work with your student at a pace they will be comfortable with and who will gently push them to improve and work at their pace even if it means slower progress I would reccomend a get to know you session with me.

How busy is the student? Will they be able to make time to practice the piano in their daily schedule? If the student is already involved in two or three thing, be they sports, clubs, dance, etc you may want to consider not doing piano. Children shouldn't do everything available to them or it will stress them out. Make sure there will be time for piano lessons and practicing in their daily schedule.

how well can the student sit for a half an hour and take direction from a superior? Many people assume that because their student loved to tinker with the piano that they are ready for lesssons but that's not true. A student ready for lessons has the ability to stay attentive for half an hour and can read at a first grade level.
