Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We bring new students in for a one week FREE trial. They are invited to participate in classes, and work with a certified instructor to make them comfortable, and understand the lessons while learning and applying.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a USAF Persian Gulf War Veteran. I have 29 years of martial arts and instruction experience. I have received the rank of Black Belt and higher in 5 different martial arts systems.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Our pricing is $99/mo for unlimited classes. Private instruction is available for $50/hr.
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching martial arts as an advanced student many years ago. I enjoy teaching individuals how to defend themselves, and develop the confidence needed to do so successfully.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with men, women, and children of all ages and backgrounds. From age 3 to age 80. Experience level is not an issue. I have instructed workshops at battered women's shelters, scout trooops, fitness groups, and law enforcement. I have instructed students with Autism, and various handicaps.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently instructed a workshop for a group of 8 year old Girl Scouts. They were a very fun bunch, and they were very adaptive and eager to learn the skills.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Take the time to research the school, the system, and the instructor. Just because it's a popular place or martial arts system does not mean it's the best fit for what you are looking to accomplish in your goals. There's a big difference between burgers and steak.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Any questions that you truly have in your heart and mind to feel comfortable with your research and decision making are good questions. There are no bad or stupid questions.
