About

I am an experienced teacher who has been teaching on and off for over 25 years. I am a member of the Beavercreek piano teachers group and Ohio Music Teacher’s.

I was the pianist for Stage Lefters drama group's band under direction of Debbie Johnson (Debray Music) and Kristin Talbert, former piano teacher.

I have played for many church functions including offertories and cantatas.

I have also continued study with a teacher who teaches teachers to stay sharp myself.

I love seeing that "lightbulb" of joy show up on a student's face when they progress to the next level in even small ways.

Encouraging students with praise and affirmation mixed in with the needed instruction keeps them motivated.

I also see what types of music they gravitate to and gear their assignments that direction.

What I enjoy most about teaching piano is seeing Students progress and see that lightbulb turn on when they discover something new about music!

We are so thankful for Marla! Our son began taking piano lessons as a middle school student, and Marla was the perfect teacher for him in so many ways. A patient teacher with an eye to her individual students needs and goals, Marla has been skillful at teaching our son the basics without making him feel like a little kid. She works hard to find out what her students love and then gives them the opportunity to grow and blossom within that sphere. She also makes the fundamentals of piano a priority, keeping it fun with contests during the summer (or pandemic!) and prizes and incentives along the way. Her love of teaching and pride in her students success is evident at her annual student recitals, which we look forward to each year. Marla is easy to work with, thoughtful, encouraging, and excited about her students progress. She has made piano lesson day one of our favorite days of the week!

She is very personable and a delight to have as a teacher. She is knowledgeable in piano and helped me progress in my skills. My son loves taking lessons from her now and is improving quickly.

She is an excellent teacher! Very patient with my son who is quite wiggly during the lesson. He has really progressed, and even though I have taken lessons in the past, he already knows more about music than I do!

    Frequently asked questions

If they are brand new to Music I start out with the beginning curriculum that I use and engage the students by asking them questions as we go along. This helps me get to know them better because I take a very individualized approach to teaching music.

I completed a full line of musical study with my private teachers and had some college at the University of Dayton. I have been teaching on and off for over 40 years

Yes it is $18 for a half hour lesson but half hour lessons are only for the very young and very beginning. Soon I like to go into a 45 minute lesson for $27 As a half hour lesson at that point is simply too short and we can't complete everything we need to.
