Paul Cohn Guitar Lessons

My teaching approach:

I cater my teaching to my student's needs. Sometimes we'll use method books for a particular style or level, sometimes we'll go out of the book and learn some songs. I have an American Stratocaster, a jazz semihollow guitar, and an Ibanez classical. I am an experienced guitarist in many different settings, including jazz bands and classical ensembles.

I like to talk to the student and figure out what his or her interests, goals, and influences are. I then assess their playing ability by asking them to show me what chords, scales, and songs, licks, etc. they have learned.

I typically like to start lessons by reviewing what we've done the past week - I find it very important to review and make sure you've mastered everything so we can build on top of it. From there, we go on to work with some technical things - including chords and scales - and then some applicable things - such as songs and licks.
