Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start with finding out if they have had prior musical experience. If not I start building a theory knowledge focused on reading notes. Then we move to one of three playing books based on age and readiness to play. We will follow either piano adventures, Czernys practical piano method, or ABRSM grade 1. As the student takes to reading we learn how to find songs that match our playing ability and how to maintain a consistent benificial practice routine.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I took classical piano lessons from Dr David Crane for 12 years. Went to Bowling Green State University and studied under Dr Laura Melton. I took music theory, music history, counter point, composition and auril skills while attending the college. I have toaught piano for 8 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My lesson prices are 25 dollars an hour.
How did you get started teaching?
Music has always been my passion and being able to share it with others is a way for me to continue growing as a musician.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have experience working with students between the ages of 3 and 55. I also have taught students with various social and learning disabilities including autism and dyslexia.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
A student should know what areas they struggle with in school and communicate that with a teacher. They should have a general direction that they would like to go with music (what genre they would like to practice, how extensively they would like to understand the instrument, etc.)
