I studied classical music and composition at the University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music, Jazz Studies at San Francisco State, and Audio Engineering at The Evergreen State College.
You can catch me performing with The Katie Jane Band all over Portland and the west coast or at one of my freeg classes. I teach a monthly free guitar class at my studio at Mt Tabor Music School!
Music has brought me so much joy and fulfillment, it is truly special to see someone move forward on their musical journey and get excited about learning a new instrument.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My method of teaching is flexible, but I try to give every student the tools to become a complete musician so that music becomes a life long hobby. It's also important to teach tunes that inspire each student, so I am able to customize my lesson plan to fit your interests.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a professional musician and teacher with over 25 years experience. I tour all over the West coast with the Katie Jane Band playing guitar, fiddle, and mandolin. I studied Violin performance and composition at the Conservatory of Music at UOP, Jazz Studies at SF State, and Audio Engineering and Music Production at The Evergreen State College.

How did you get started teaching?
When I was only 18 I taught a beginning guitar class at my mom's elementary school. She was a third grade teacher. It was a lot of fun but I became truly inspired when my mom ran across one of my students, who was only 6 at the time, who had joined their college choir and credited me with starting them on their musical journey!
What types of students have you worked with?
I enjoy working with all types of students. Young and old, experienced or beginner. Whether you're learning music as a hobby or you're a seasoned pro it's great to share my knowledge with you and see you get inspired to try new things and challenge yourself to reach new heights!
