I specialize in one-on-one private piano/keyboard lessons. Additionally, I travel to the students' homes so it's quite convenient for parents and most comfortable for students.

Please keep in mind that my in-the-home lessons are limited geographically to West Linn and Lake Oswego Oregon only. This is to keep the weekly travel times between lessons more manageable.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

If the student is a beginner, I work on teaching the basics: primarily rhythm and note recognition. Beyond that we cover playing in time, harmony and chords, etc.

If the student has had previous experience, I create a custom curriculum for each one, based on their strengths, weaknesses, and interests.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have been a working professional musician since 1984. I lived and worked in Los Angeles, working live shows, as well as studio dates. I also worked creating music for telelvision and film.

Besides beginning in middle school and continuing thru high school and early college years, I studied with Dick Grove for many years as well as completing my music studies at UCLA.

In 2001, I relocated to West Linn OR to focus on private lessons, one-on-one with students.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

I recommend starting with a half hour lesson, which is plenty of time for the vast majority of student. Longer lesson times are available based on needs and experience of the student.

The half hour lesson is currently $35 and included all materials except the core books that I use, if any. They are usually $7-$8.50, depending on the level.

How did you get started teaching?

I started teaching while in college and have continued to hone and develop my custom curriculum ever since.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have had students of all ages, ranging in age from 4 into their 70s. All interests are addressed in the lessons, from traditional classic studies and also popular music.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Be willing to learn and to make regular and consistent time to practice. These are the two most important elements to a successful learning endeavor.
