About this pro

Hancock Music Studio was founded by Pollyanna Moody in 1996.  The studio offers individualized private instruction for ages 5-100 and beginning to advanced experience levels.  The initial lesson is a no risk, free 30 minute session.  This allows potential students determine if the instructor's teaching style and the students goals match.  Lessons provide a comprehensive education, developing musicianship, ear training, technique, creativity, performance opportunities and confidence building! Ms. Moody is part of the Marylhurst University voice faculty.  Hancock Music Studio offers voice and piano lessons in SE Portland.  Pollyanna served as a music faculty member at Portland Community College for seven years.  She received her Masters in Vocal Performance from Portland State University and became a certified Andover Educator (Body Mapping) in 2002.  She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.

I love watching my students grow as musicians and artists.  The confidence that singers get through lessons give me great joy.

Polly is very supportive and patient.

I enjoyed the different pieces I worked with and how there was some variety in the music. I also felt that Polly was able to accommodate well when a certain technique was difficult for me to understand the first time; she's great at explaining concepts in different ways.

Ms. Hancock's skill and commitment are foremost. She has a keen ear for good and bad technique. She keeps adding to a large collection of ways to teach different skills, and works with her student to match their needs and learning style. She keeps close track of each particular student's needs and progress. Ms. Hancock is easy to work with and gives good explanations. She will re-word anything that the student finds confusing or misleading, making sure the idea is grasped. She has a gentle touch for those who need it, and is always encouraging. The extra activities outside personal lessons are rewarding: class recitals, master classes, public shows. These require substantial time and effort and are covered in lesson fees. I would recommend her as a voice teacher to anyone.

Polly is a highly talented and astute musician, teacher, and vocal coach. She focused on my goals while addressing the techniques needed for my success. I always leave my lesson confident in my progress, and the experience is always fun!
