About
In my studio, music is a means of self-expression and self-discovery. Regardless of musical tastes and interests, all students should feel empowered to express themselves through their playing. Learning an instrument takes discipline and vulnerability, but there’s plenty of room for fun. Even as my students develop a strong technical foundation, my underlying goal is for them to fall in love with the piano and become lifelong musicians.
My foundational principles are that:
• every human being is inherently musical, and
• piano is a learnable skill.
Even if you’ve never used your music-making muscles, they’re still in there! Whether your goal is to accompany yourself on popular songs or to perform a sonata for a packed concert hall, reaching that goal depends less on “talent” than on commitment to practice.
Teaching also pushes me to live in an atmosphere of growth. I've always been an enthusiastic learner, and it's inspiring to be a part of other people's learning process.
