About
Hi name is Conrad Flater and I am a classical guitar performance major studying under Thomas Kikta at Duquesne University's Mary Pappert School of Music. I specialize in teaching students the Aaron Shearer method, a method of learning the guitar that breaks the instrument into a mind body and person connection. Not only will you learn proper fundamentals and very important basics that many players skip, but you will also achieve mastery of sight reading, finger picking, and a full understanding of how the hands work with the brain and how to increase your dexterity and coordination. I don't teach you how to play songs using tabs, I teach you how to become a musician first and a guitarist second.
It is lifes greatest joy to see my students achieve something they once thought to be impossible through means of hard work and practice. I love being able to watch my students grow into great talented musicians and use the lessons learned on the instrument and apply them to life.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
For a new student I would like to see where they currently stand, and what bad habits they play with and what good habits they play with. The main goal is to replace all bad habits with new and improved ones. I tend to start all of my students advanced and beginner, with the study of the anatomy of the human hand. Becoming a good classical guitarist or any style of finger picking, requires a great understanding of how the human hand works.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
7 years of lessons at Wisconsin academy of music
currently enrolled in a bachelor's guitar performance program at Duquesne university.
