About
I am retired from the first violin section of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. I teach intermediate and advanced students 12 yrs. or older. Adults are welcome. My students do a mix of technical material (scales and etudes) and repertoire ( Concertos, short pieces) I help them to find the pathway between technique and musical expression. I hold frequent masterclasses and recitals for my students. I also help people prepare for auditions for youth orchestras, and seating in school orchestras.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to learn about the students musical history and experience. Then I like to hear and see the student play a couple of different pieces including the one that he/she knows the best or is the most comfortable with. Then I will decide what are some good areas to focus on initially in order to serve the students needs and musical goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
28 years in the Pittsburgh Symphony. 40+ years of private teaching. Various courses in string pedagogy.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $70 an hour for lessons. I do not teach half hour lessons.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with students age 11 or older who have had 3 or 4 years of lessons. I also work with adult students.
