About

Hi! I am Kathy!

I am a violin teacher in the Pittsburgh area, located more specifically in the Bridgeville/South Fayette area.

I have a developed background in music performance, I got my Bachelor's degree in Arts and Music Performance in 2017 in Chile. I also did an Artist Diploma Program and a Master's degree in Music Performance at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh PA, getting those degrees in 2021 and 2023.

I have plenty of experience teaching, I have been teaching for over 8 years, and I also speak Spanish, so I can give lessons in both languages, English and Spanish.

I am a certified Suzuki violin teacher, and I use Suzuki as my principal methodology, but I know as well that every student is different, so I adapt it to each of my students.

Talking about students, I have experience working with children as young as 3 years old, teenagers, and adults. I don't think there is a limit of age to start learning something new, it just depends on your motivation.

A very good teacher, I really learned many things with her. Although sometimes she was strict and somewhat sarcastic, she always worried about my education.

The teacher was really patient and good at what she did. I think I would have improved more if I studied as much as I should have, but classes were really good and I learned a lot. Some of my classmates improved soo much with her as a teacher, it was amazing! If you study and do as she says you are gonna learn how to play violin beautifully. 100% recommend!

    Frequently asked questions

We start with the basics, which means parts of the violin, parts of the bow, bow holding, violin holding, resting position, and other basic things I feel are important for the student to know. If the student has some experience, I expect to hear something in the first lesson, and we start working from there.
Bachelor's degree in Arts, Music Performance, Universidad de Chile. Artist Diploma Program in Music Performance, Duquesne University. M.M in Performance, Duquesne University.
$30 for each 30-minute lesson. $40 for each 45-minute lesson. $50 for each 60-minute lesson.
I started teaching violin in my home country, Chile. I started doing it in different settings, one-on-one lessons, and group classes. I started principally because I wanted to share my knowledge with children and every person who would like to learn how to play this beautiful instrument.
Children starting at 3 years old. Teenagers of all ages. Adult people.
Each semester, I organize a recital with my students, so they can play the pieces they have been working on in front of their families/friends and other students.
You need to trust them, any professor that you choose, you need to be sure you will be able to trust what they teach you. Make sure they have enough background on their education and experience, and also make sure they are a good fit for you. Not all teachers are for all students.
They need to make sure they practice as the teacher told them, but anyway, if you as a student have a need, just communicate it immediately with your teacher. There is no way for any teacher to know what is on the student's mind, so communication here is key.
