Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We like to have the student schedule an intro class with us so we can best plan the class and match our approach to their needs
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Instructors at the Sensei Level and above have to maintain a standard and test into their prospective levels. We have black belt-level instructors in all major programs and fitness trainers with 15+ years of training/teaching experience
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
We have a variety of group class pricing plans that we go over at the intro class.
Individual Self - Defense Training starts at $150 per hour and travel options are available as well.
How did you get started teaching?
I was the father of a 6 year old who was afraid to go onto the floor for karate class. I went onto the floor in 2001 and have never left!
What types of students have you worked with?
Individuals, families, corporate groups, people with mobility and injury issues
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
We ran an event for beginners in self defense and I watched their eyes open when we had them demonstrate just a few key moves to protect themselves. The students realized that they could pull off the training and that it was just normal people who train with us.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Patience and humbleness are key, nobody likes an instructor who continually has to list their accomplishments
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are my greatest needs to get out of this training? ( Am I worried about my safety when going about my daily/nightly life?)
Am I worried that I need to be in shape before I start? (hint: no)
