In addition to a successful classical performance career, she has toured churches throughout the United States as sacred composer, arranger, solo pianist and soprano soloist. She holds the Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Pedagogy (4.0 average) from The University of Oklahoma. Her most recent world premiere, Ronaldo Miranda’s Festpielmüsik for Two Pianos & Percussion with members of the Greenville Symphony, is considered by the composer to be the definitive performance of that work to date.

How did you get started teaching?

I began teaching in my early teens when an adult neighbor observed my playing and asked for lessons. A passion for helping others is a central tenet of my life. My purpose in teaching is the success of my students. I want you to reach your full personal and musical potential!

Lessons are collaborative between teacher and student. Personal musical growth is a transformational experience, extending far beyond music study itself. Benefits include concentration, confidence, problem solving and critical thinking, discipline, determination, commitment, self-expression, personal enrichment, and inspiration.

What types of students have you worked with?

I believe there is a place in music for everyone. Sharing the joy of music with others is the central focus of my teaching approach. My students encompass all walks of life across the globe:

· Adults and teen hobbyists playing for their own private enjoyment and self-expression

· Homeschoolers and their families

· Church pianists seeking to grow their skills

· Senior citizens looking for personal enrichment

· Serious students preparing for competitions and collegiate or conservatory auditions

· College and graduate students

· Practicing professionals looking to take their performance artistry and piano technique, professional business acumen, and pedagogical/teaching skills to the next level, including:

  - private studio teachers

  - university piano professors and administrators

  - community music school owners and teachers

  - private and charter school teachers

  - Christian school faculty

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I truly have loved serving this year as master class clinician for the Presbyterian College Piano Clinic (2020) in Clinton, SC; adjudicating students in competitions and auditions; serving as piano worship leader in churches across the country; and presenting both sacred and classical concerts. Most of all, I enjoy personally working with students in online lessons!

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Be sure that the teacher is interested in you as a person, and is a knowledgeable, passionate pianist who is professionally active and a lifelong learner. Check their track record, as well as their actual degrees and experience.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

What are my goals in studying piano?

Do I have a reliable acoustic piano or fully weighted 88-key digital keyboard?

Do I have a smart phone or tablet/laptop (Apple devices are best) with a good camera and mic and highspeed Internet connection for good reception during online lessons?

Do I have time to practice daily for optimal benefits from lessons, steady progress, and musical joy?
