I excel at keeping things simple for beginners, until they can grasp the basic fundamentals of playing and music theory. Playing with other people is very important, so I will make a big part of your lessons me just playing a chord progression while you explore the fretboard and learn in your own time.
I love sharing the gift of music with people. I love the way a person's eyes light up when they understand a new concept. I love everything about guitar.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I would begin by talking to the student for a few minutes to find out what their interests are. What kind of music they like, what they know so far, how do they want to play. For a beginner, I would begin by teaching them a basic scale shape and 2-3 chords so they can begin to experiment on their own.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated from ETSU with a major in theater, and a minor in music. While there, I studied classical guitar, as well as popular styles of guitar including rock, metal, and pop.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
At the moment, I'm trying to build my list of clientele. Therefore, I feel like it is fair to charge $20 for a half hour lesson. This is much cheaper than music stores in the area. If you do a bit of research, you will see that the large stores charge much more for lessons. As an introduction to new students, I am also offering one half-hour lesson at half the price so you can decide if you like it or not. That's right, a half-hour lesson for $10.
How did you get started teaching?
As mentioned, I am trying to build my list of clientele, but I have 20+ years of guitar experience. I would like to help beginners get started and give them a clear understanding of musical concepts that aren't confusing. I can also show intermediates some advanced theory concepts to keep you moving forward on your guitar journey.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Chemistry matters! Not every teacher is for every student. It is a relationship. You need to find someone you are comfortable learning with first of all. Someone who can identify how you learn, and explain concepts in ways that are clear to you. Everyone learns differently.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What do you want to do? What kind of music do you want to play? What do you know so far, and how can I help you get there? What roadblocks do you feel like you're hitting in your journey? Every question is valid. Always ask questions.
