What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I like to have them come in and try two free lessons. At the lesson I like to find out more about them. Why did they decide to try lessons. What type of hobbies do they like to do. Let them know more about me and my teaching styles. Then I like to show them about the instrument they are wanting to learn about. Hopefully by the end of the lesson, they will be able to play or sing their first song.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have my degree from the University of Tennessee. I have my Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education K-12, and my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction K-8. I have taught music in Knox County School System. I have taught music in coops for homeschoolers, and I have taught private music lessons for almost 34 years.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Private lessons are $80.00 for a 30 minute lesson once a week.

Semi-private lessons are $65.00 for 30 minute lesson once a week.

Group lessons are $60.00 a month for 45 minute lesson once a week.

How did you get started teaching?

I started teaching when I was 18 years old at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church when they had a School of the Arts Program.

What types of students have you worked with?

I love working with all ages. From 3 year olds to senior citizens. I work with beginning to advanced. I teach a lot of beginning adult students.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I have a little gir, that her mom signed her up for piano lessons last year. She was very shy and just did not want to take piano lessons. This year she has come out of her shell and she loves coming to music. She was so excited to be in the last recital and she did great.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Before  you commit to lessons with a teacher, I would try a lesson with them, to make sure that you enjoy lessons with your teacher. It is important that your personalities work well together.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

What are they expected to do each week to complete their assignments. What concerns do they have about lessons?
