A full time teacher and former college guitar professor has a few openings for new students.
Benjamin Franklin is a well known name in the Knoxville area in the teaching arena. He taught professionally in music stores and at a local community college before opening his own studio in 2008 to be able to serve his students a broader array of options. Technically, Ben produces some of of the best musicians in the area. Several of his students have been awarded college schoarships for their excellence in guitar, one traveled with a major Christian artist as an opening band, one recently landed a recording contract in Nashville, and many are leading music in churches or have successful bands today all over the region. Students can mix lessons between instruments, bring their whole band in to learn as a team, learn personal recording, advanced lead playing, theory, song writing, or just to play their first song. His background includes Classical Performance Guitar major from Indiana University.
Parents love that the studio is a wholesome environment for children, teen, and adults with a parent waiting area, just off the interstate (I-640 @Broadway) so it is easily accessible. Kids love the patient, encouraging style of teaching that brings out the best in them. Teenagers love the ability to work with artists they enjoy and getting opportunity to jam with other musicians. Whether you are 5 or 75, you'll find just what you are looking for in a teacher.
He teaches all styles of music, so if you have an interest in learning the latest song from your favorite artist, or classical, jazz, blues, country, rock, Contemporary Christian, gospel, alternative or anything in between, we will help you reach your goals as a musician.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I customize lessons for each student. You study both the style and artists you want to learn. You can learn to play guitar by ear, by chords, by tab, or learn sight reading- or all of the above. Keyboard students often want to learn to chord play to play on a praise team, but others want traditional sight reading lessons. As students develop, they have an opportunity to participate in a monthly ensemble class, with guitar, lead, bass, drums, piano, vocals all learning to work together.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have taught lessons full time for twenty years, including guitar professor at a local college. I studied for a Classical Performance Guitar degree.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Lessons are $75 per month for a 30 minute lesson, with discounts for multiple family members.
How did you get started teaching?
I began by teaching in music stores, and eventually stepped out to begin my own music studio.
What types of students have you worked with?
I teach students ages 5-75...and younger for drums and piano.
I teach all genres: classical, rock, jazz, country, Contemporary Christian, Gospel, blues, pop, and anything in between.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently received a note from a student from years ago, who is now a guitar teacher and worship leader himself, about how much his lessons had influenced him and helped him still today. It was a blessing.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find one who fits you best, encourages and challenges you at the same time, and who believes in you.
