Joe & Sharon's Music
About
I teach using chords and songs to get students playing something interesting quickly. We cover many styles and types of music and I encourage ear training, and learning how to figure out accompaniment on your own. We cover some theory as the student desires. I have a degree in music theory and can teach reading but that is not required. I take students from where they are and build on their abilities and likes. We usually have lots of fun. What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start with new students from where they are musically. I take complete beginners, but also those who have played for years. Lessons last one hour. I do not use contracts. You pay when you come. I also teach groups. Students under 10 have a half hour class.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree in music theory, and have years of experience teaching individuals and groups. I currently teach guitar for non-credit at the local university as well as a local senior center and individuals.

My lessons are $20 per hour. Group rates are $10 per person per hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I have played guitar since I was 14 years old. After getting my degree, I taught guitar and piano at Berkshire School of Music in western Massachusetts. After moving to Tennessee I continued teaching independently.
