What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Get to know student's personality and musical goals. Find out whether individual is a full-time student or a working professional. Then lay out musical curriculum to attain one's goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Music degree from University of Arizona.
Former member of National Music Teachers Association.
Over 25 years teaching experience.
What types of students have you worked with?
As young as 4 years old to as old as 63 years of age. Most of my students are attending homeschool, public/charter school, and private school. However, I have also taught college age students, working adult professionals, full-time parents, and special needs students.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure the relationship with student and teacher have good communication and rapport. Make sure the teacher really understands the musical needs of the student.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Do I really want to learn to play this instrument? Will I be able to commit to some practicing outside the lesson?
