Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first time with a student is the time that we review the fitness/martial arts experience and level of the student. Once a determination is made regarding the skill set the student will determine in what area they want to train. When the above is complete a training program is designed and implemented.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have 42 years of training under Grand Master Al Garza. I have studied training and what works for each individual.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard pricing for a 1 hour private is $65.00
If it is a class enviroment with 5 students or more the fee is $20.00 per student.
The student can buy a block of hours that does not expire. Blocks can be purchased in 5, 10, and 20 hour blocks.
The 5 hour block is $55.00 per hour
The 10 hour block is $45.00 per hour
The 20 hour block is $40.00 per hour
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching the younger martial artist at age 18 years old. I was very successful in the ring early on and this is what caused other fighters to seek me out for training.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all types of students. Young, old, the very experienced, to the beginner.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A recent event that I am fond of was training a new fighter , 260 lbs 6ft 4 inch, he went on the win his first debut fight with an overhand right in the first round.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure that the instructor is active on the mat or ring. It is important that the instructor has had real world experience. An instructor that does not have that type of experience can give a student a false sense of security in a self defense situation.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Do you have the skill set for what my personal goals. Some instructors specialize in certian areas.
