About

I am a classically trained pianist and composer with an MM and DMA in music composition and just recently moved to the Dallas area. I've been giving private piano, composition and music theory lessons for the past ten years. Before that I taught classes at the university level in music theory and electronic music. My music has been performed in the US and Europe and I've played and premiered new music in the US by other living composers. Recordings of my playing can be found on CDs published by Centaur Records and Capstone Records. I'm also a member of the Dallas Music Teachers Association, Texas Music Teachers Association and the Music Teachers National Association.

Music has always been my passion and I teach music so I can share that passion with others. I'm also interested in the use of technology for music education--recently I've been involved with a startup company called Illiac Software that develops educational software for teaching music theory.

David has been working with our 10-year-old son (in home) for the past several months and we could not be happier! David has a calm style and is quick to adjust his approach based on my son’s level of engagement and understanding of the lesson. He is also very supportive and encouraging which goes a long way towards instilling a desire to discover and understand music without stress.
My son is a novice, but thanks to David, he is learning quickly. I would recommend David to any parent looking for a piano teacher for their child.

Frequently asked questions

Everyone learns differently, so my approach depends on each individual's learning style and his/her strengths and weaknesses.  I try to maintain a balance, keeping lessons on a well structured path (using method books) while playing pieces that my students are particularly interested in.  Students will also have opportunities to play in recitals, festivals and other events, which are strong motivators and goals that they can constantly work towards.

I have an MM and DMA in Music Composition and have performed new music in concerts and festivals throughout the U.S.

$25 for a half-hour lesson, $37.50 for a 45-minute lesson and $50 for a full hour.  I teach in-home lessons at the same rates plus an additional $15.
