About

Starnote Piano has been a leader in Texas piano education for 30 years. Starla Jackson also has extensive performing experience having begun her professional career at age 11. A native Houstonian, Mrs. Jackson holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Montana State University. She holds a Master of Music from the University of Houston, and a Master of Liberal Arts from Houston Baptist University. She has completed coursework toward a Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Houston.

"Lessons are designed to enable students to learn and succeed. Failure is never an option. Each week, students experience the joy and pride of musical accomplishment, leaving the studio with a positive sense of having mastered a musical concept. The goal is to provide students a sense of confidence and achievement, while simultaneously challenging them to greater levels of musical accomplishment. Flexible teaching styles enable me to tailor curriculum to best suit each student's uniquely personal learning needs."

The era of "strictly classical" piano instructors is passing. Contemporary piano education methods include popular music and jazz compositions. Popular music can be tricky, but it is included in students' repertoire if they wish. The child who learns Beatles tunes, songs from "Frozen," hymns, or whatever they enjoy, becomes the adult who continues to play the piano for a lifetime.

Mrs. Jackson performs regularly as a solo recitalist and with vocal and instrumental professionals. She has volunteered 1,000+ hours as a music therapist for the elderly and the mentally-challenged.

Lessons are designed with the individual student in mind, depending on their experience and what their goals are. Ms. Jackson is great with teaching adult beginners, too.
