About
My teaching approach: I tailor my lessons to fit the students goals. Beginner students want to learn songs, not theory. So I get the student playing /singing before I focus on scales and theory. I offer online lessons only for convenience for busy schedules and flexibility with appointments. I also determine what your learning style is, so that I can effectively teach you. I have over 18 years teaching experience in guitar and voice, and I teach songwriting and ukulele as well. I've been performing locally and internationally for over 7 years. My influences are: The Beatles, the Killers, Patty Griffin, Ray LaMontagne, 50's music, Eva Cassidy, Motown, Damien Rice, Sam Cooke, Ingrid Michaelson, Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Swift, Rich Mullins, Amy Grant, Darrell Evans, Ramsie Shick. My guitar/voice lessons take place in: online. Guitar Techniques: Rhythm guitar, Open tuning, Vocal Accompaniment, Performance, Music Theory, Scales and Exercises, Song Writing
I love seeing students discover music and learn to love music through lessons. I also love seeing a student grow into a performer and discover a newfound confidence as a result of taking lessons. As they say, love what you do and you'll never work a day in your life. My work never feels like work! My website is www.brookeslessons.com

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Explaining the basics and how to practice to the beginners, along with determining what their learning style is and what motivates them.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated with an Associates in Music and Practical Theology from Christ for The Nations. I've been teaching guitar, leading worship and performing for over 12 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I keep it simple and charge for 30 and 60 minute lessons. If a sibling group is interested in lessons, I offer discounts.
How did you get started teaching?
A small group at church that I offered for beginners. It was so much fun, I decided to do it part time and then eventually full time.
What types of students have you worked with?
All kinds. Adult and kids. Children with disabilites and incredibly gifted students. Since I'm a woman, I tend to teach more girls than boys just because girls feel more comfortable with me.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Absolutely loved doing a benefit concert to help raise money for my friends mission trip.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find out if they specialize in what you want to learn. If they have a country or rock style and you want to learn classical, it won't be a good fit. And give it one lesson, if it doesn't feel like a good fit, then try another instructor.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What their goals are, how much time they have to practice, are they interested in performing, how much exposure have they had to music, where they see their skill level being in 3 months, 6 months, 1 year
