I've been playing the piano since I was a small child. Music, which I love, has been my life. I play organ for church services and other social events. I have made recordings and play for weddings and funerals all over Houston area. I have been teaching for over 50 years and love every minute of it. It is a joy helping people learn to play the piano and/or organ from the beginning student to someone that wants to improve and upgrade their quality of playing. I teach children and adults of all ages.
I have my studio set apart in my own home and teach on a grand piano. I keep a musical library here for your convenience so you don't have to find the correct music books yourselves. I choose the music individually for each student which I think is very important.

I have had the honor of having a student get a full college scholarship with his piano skills! He started with me as a small boy and continued until his HS Graduation. I am very proud of his accomplishments!
It is a joy to see my students improve their own musical abilities of being able to play songs on the piano and increase their love of playing and of music!

I started piano lessons with Mrs. Ann King October 2021 at age 45 and have been going once a week since then. I have been absent some days due to vacations, business trips but she is flexible and will even work with you to make up your days, but I go weekly/one hour lessons. I really like that the lessons are done with piano books which you purchase and get to take home to practice so she can see your progress week to week (affordable piano books). The lessons are performed on a Baldwin Grand Piano which sounds amazing. Mrs. King is an excellent pianist and she is a patient teacher taking her time to teach you everything there is to know about piano music. I highly recommend her.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I first find out the kind of music they are interested in and focus on this kind of music for their lesson plan, but also interweave fingerwork and a study book to go along with this and a fun book such a classical, folk songs, pop, jazz and etc. If the student is brand new to music, Middle C is introduced on the piano itself and on the staff paper and we branch out from there, one note at a time. I do not give the student more than they can handle each week, but also give them all that the student can practice in that length of time. We discuss the situation at hand and go from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have attended the University of Illinois to further my musical education and also have taken private lessons from Musical Instructors to further my musical education with piano and organ.

Yes, I charge the same price for all students, adults and children. $48.00 per hour and $24.00 per 1/2 hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I have been playing piano, since I can remember. I was then enrolled in lessons at the age of 5 years. Absolutely loved it and in a few years added the large church organ to my studies. It was around that time that I knew I wanted to be a teacher myself for I had fallen in love with music and the instruments and my teachers. As more time went along I added band and some more instruments to my career of musical knowledge and later I became a master in playing all of these; clarinet, trumpet, sax, auto-harp, and harmonica. But my very favorite is teaching others the joy of music on my Baldwin Grand Piano.
What types of students have you worked with?
I teach all and any students that are interested in music of any form. I explain that to their advantage, they do need to learn the basics in order to play their own favorites and learn different kinds of instrumental music. I teach all ages from little ones 3-4 on up to older ones who want to start learning for their own pleasure or want to pick up where they left off when they were in lessons before.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I love music and am fond of many musical events. I have helped many students prepare for their special events at school that they wish to participate in; church programs, school contests or a social event they might wish to play for. I'm here for them always.
I have had a few of my students obtain a free 4 year musical scholarship on piano for a 4 year degree at college ! Now my friend, that's worth working for!!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a teacher that is kind and pleasant and one that loves music with all her heart! One that gives you the opportunity to learn different kinds of music and the kind of music that YOU yourself like....one that gives a good education of the keyboard and the learning ability to believe that you yourself can do this and show you how- in an easy and fun way! You as a student are interested or you wouldn't be reading this....and a good teacher will show you how to learn, practice and have a fun and enjoyable time making music!

Any questions you may have you should feel free to talk to me about at any time. I'm here for you as a teacher in any way, I will try and answer any questions before you would hire me as your teacher if you decide to do so, and of course anytime thereafter.
