What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My first initial session will be a semi private skills and martial i.e. assessment. This will allow myself and or my staff to evaluate the martial atheletes strengths and potential abilities. This session also allows the martial athelete the chance to evaluate us as professionals and to make certain we are a great fit as a team.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over 45 yrs of martial arts training under my belt and Masters rank in 5 different martial arts systems . I was inducted into the Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame 2009 - 2010 as Master Martial Artist of the Year, and Coach of the Year,1994 -1996 National Blackbelt League 1# Middleweight Point Sparring Champion, Amatuer Organization of Karates Top Ten Fighter 1995. I've produced numerous world and national champions as competitive martial atheletes.
How did you get started teaching?
I'm 2nd generation of martial arts masters and started my teaching of martial atheletes when I was 8 yrs of age. Leading my fathers youth classes then at 10 I moved up to leading adult classes thru warm up and basics training by 13 I was the Jr. Instructor on the payroll of Professional Karate Institute. At 16 I was the asistant instructor and Captain of Karate World Studios competition team. At 21 I opened my first martial academy Excalibur Martial Arts.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've had the pleasure of working with martial atheletes from all walks of life children and adults. Physically challenged aswell as elite competitor ms in the sport.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would suggest they find a reputable instructor with good developed martial program.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Ask the instructor if he or she has real life experiences in the field and have they trained effectively in self defense and can the teach someone to successfully defend them selves.
