For the past fifteen years, Ms. Magnuson has taught children and adults from families that include television personalities, elected political officials and community leaders. She advises parents of the widespread data now showing that children who study piano do better academically (often with higher IQ's), socially, physically (hand- eye coordination) and are helped considerably with self esteem.
Ms. Magnuson teaches all levels to ages over five years. Instruction includes technique, theory, note reading, ear training, composition and improvisation, as well as performance preparation for recitals and/or competitions. She teaches the classics while encouraging her students to learn all genres and styles of music repertoire. Most importantly, she believes in developing and maintaining in every student a love for music. Each summer Ms. Magnuson attends the Chautauqua Institution for the Arts in Chautauqua, N.Y. It was at Chautauqua that Ms. Magnuson studied in high school with world renowned concert pianist, Ozan Marsh. Rebecca is a faculty member at Chautauqua where she teaches songwriting. She holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy.
My students progress at the piano quickly because my approach is to encourage through positive reinforcement. Each lesson is fun, and my students love to come back every week! Watching them grow musically, and develop a love for music that will last through their life is truly the most rewarding part of teaching for me.
