About

I'm a multi instrumentalist with both a traditional academic and as a working musician. I've played in orchestras, pit bands, rock bands, jazz groups, bluegrass groups and I've worked as a session player for recording sessions.

I am happy to teach guitar, bass, saxophone, clarinet, flute, mandolin, banjo.

I have over 15 years experience as a private educator/tutor in various fields raging from music, college level math, karate, and surfing.

I've always enjoyed figuring out how things work especially when it comes to music and composition. Especially in styles that involve improvisation, understanding the framework allows you to create on the spot music with ease.

    Frequently asked questions

First I like to establish a good foundation before automatically progressing, then I like understand the students goal like what they want to achieve and set a plan for getting there.

I've started my musical journey with private guitar lessons at age 10 learning classical, jazz, and pop over many years. I started played saxophone in elementary school continued through high school and college doubling on flute and bass clarinet.

After college I worked as a repair tech for brass and strings for many years learning the ins and outs of proper instrument maintenance.

40 per 1/2 hour for string instruments or 75 for 1 hour

(Woodwind lessons include warm up before the lesson so I only do one hour lessons)

120 per 1 hour for saxophone, flute, clarinet

At age 13 I started helping my guitar teacher with his younger group classes in exchange for discounted private lessons. From there I tutored through high school and volunteered at my college's student resource center.

My first official teaching job was teaching group classes at a community center in Menlo Park.
