About

I've been playing, teaching, and studying music my whole life. Originally self-taught piano, guitar, bass, then formally trained with professional concert pianists, concert guitarists. Formal degree in Music Composition, and Piano at San Diego State University. I have expert knowledge, patience, and great communication. But most importantly, I make learning easy and fun.

I enjoy playing, listening, and writing everything from Metal, Rock, Rap and Pop, to Classical, Jazz, Country, and even just some twangy acoustic guitar chords.

Let's play some hits!

Matt C.

    Frequently asked questions

I go over basic understanding of how to listen to music and how it translates into playing an instrument.  Then we go over goals and the student decides what music they would like to learn.

I originally taught myself by ear when I was a kid. So I am very familiar with self-learning and how students figure out things on their own. Then later, I studied with concert musicians and composers, while formally studying at University earning a degree in music composition and piano.
If there are some things that you have learned on your own, explain how you were able to learn them. Decide on what you are most excited to learn next, and what has been holding you back.
