About
My service stands out because I recognize the individuality and unique interests of each student. We collaborate to find music that they are interested in, and I build a curriculum based on their passions and my expertise.
There are few things more rewarding than a student invested in their own learning. When first starting out, I focus on building rapport with my student. This looks like praise when they successfully execute an assignment, and focused reflection when the assignment is incomplete. I also spend time gauging exactly how many assignments to give, which depends on the amount of time we have together and how driven I sense they are. I'm careful to give only one or two things to focus on at a time - I don't want to overwhelm them with information!
What I love about what I do is working with each student to find their strength and passion, working through the challenges (because there are ALWAYS challenges), and helping them to become the musician they've always wanted to become.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My goal with new students is to have a crystal clear idea of what their goals are. If I can help them achieve their goals, I let them know and we dive into working together!
The first lesson is for me to assess where they are and where they want to go. As mentioned above, I combine my own expertise on the instruments with their goals, and we come up with a unique plan just for them.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Performing Since 1996
Teaching since 2004
College of Wooster:
Bachelors in Music Education
Bachelors in Arts, Music Performance
NMSU:
Masters in Music, Saxophone Performance
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$40/30min
$60/45min
$80/60min
I bill in monthly packages based on how many times we meet that month.
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching in college when the music school secretary, Donna, said a woman called looking for lessons and asked if I would be willing to teach privately. I jumped on the opportunity! In music, if you might be qualified, you ALWAYS take the gig. Little did I know that it would end up being a full time career!
What types of students have you worked with?
I enjoy teaching students of all ages. Some are younger students, in middle school or high school who are seeking lessons for band.
Some are passionate amateurs who want to pick up a new hobby. I recently taught a former US Circuit Judge who wanted to learn flute (91 years old!).
I also teach younger students who just can't wait to get started on an instrument. This is usually in the form of Ukulele or Recorder Lessons.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Consider what your goals are. Be specific. Find a teacher who can help you with those goals.
