Sabina's Violin Studio
About
Attended Rice University and the SF Conservatory of Music for Violin Performance for my Bachelors and Masters. Been teaching for close to 10 years in the Bay Area.
I like interacting and teaching kids. They're fun to talk and be with. I like how fast they can pick up on things and progress when they're into what we're doing.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I teach using a combination of the Suzuki books up to book 3 and Sevcik exercises to improve both left and right hands. Students are expected to practice a minimum amount every day. Beginning violin is a lot about muscle memory.
When a student is a beginner, I like to assess what they know as far as reading notes and rhythm are concerned. Anything they don't know, we can always fill in, enough for them to be able to play and understand what they're playing. The basics are very important, so I like to take it a little slow in order to make sure the student understands the basics of posture etc., for playing the violin.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Bachlors of Music, Violin Performance
Masters of Music, Violin Performance

How did you get started teaching?
started as a teaching assistant while in grad school for my teacher
What types of students have you worked with?
I generally teach students from 5 years up into high school.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Hire someone who is willing to give you a good foundation in music and in violin playing. Playing violin wrong can result in physical injury, so be careful. If you don't feel comfortable with what your teacher is telling you or you don't understand what they are saying, or if they don't show that they understand the underlying principles of why we do certain things, maybe it's good to try another teacher out.
