About this pro

Education:
I studied Music Theory at the University of Colorado under Paris Rutherford (Regents Professor Emeritus in Jazz Studies at the University of North Texas and Hal Leonard author), and Dr. William L. Fowler (Education editor at Downbeat magazine, Music Theory columnist at Keyboard magazine, and co-inventor of the Piezo pickup).

Published Books:
I am a credited contributor to the #1 best-selling Jazz Theory book on the planet: "Jazzzology" published by Hal Leonard Corporation, the world's largest music publisher.

I also have my own Music Theory book published by Hal Leonard entitled "Modalogy: scales, modes, and chords - the primordial building blocks of music".

I know my Music Theory inside out.

Additionally, I have 16 other books, mostly about Jazz, that deal with: instrumental technique; improvisational soloing; the melodic usage of modes, scales, and arpeggios; comping chords; drop-voicings; and all kinds of cool tricks!

Levels Taught:
All, Advanced, Intermediate, Beginner

Performance Experience:
Thousands and thousands of gigs all over Europe and in the States: solo jazz piano and jazz combos, folk groups, rock bands, horn bands, disco, festivals, weddings, funerals, private parties, clubs, pubs, restaurants, casinos, beer tents, dance troupes, concert halls, country clubs, casuals, dive bars, pickup gigs, backyard barbecues, pretty much you name it.

Languages Spoken:
Spanish, German, French, Italian

I’ve been teaching for decades and it is always a great joy to witness my students progress towards mastery of their chosen instrument.

Not every musician is capable of being an instructor. It requires the ability to take complex subjects and break them down into easily digestible bite size pieces.

We learn in different ways. Some of us are more visual, some more tactile, some more intuitive, some more cerebral, etc. Knowing this allows me to adapt to each student's most natural mode of learning so that the material is grasped more easily (more quickly), and so that it is retained longer.

Coupled with my love of the art of teaching, is also the realization that it is my calling.

I have only had about 4 lesson's to date with Jeff. I find him to be very thorough . He makes everything very clear so I can understand to the best of my ability . I am 75 so it takes me somewhat longer to grasp and sink in things than it would for a younger person. I have a lot of faith with Jeff and I believe if the time were to come that Jeff felt that I was taking on to much or wasting his time as well as mine he would be open and honest in telling me. I find Jeff to be very easy and caring to work with. He has the knowledge, education and experience that one would enjoy learning from. I just hope I am able to meet his expectations. Thank you. D. Jeff is very knowledgable about music. He doesn't just try to teach out how to play songs in order to satisfy your immediate desire to play guitar. He teaches the fundamentals of music so you can potentially play anything you want. I've played guitar since I was a teenager (I'm 35 now). After all these years I can finally play a decent solo and jam out with a backing track. I've never been able to do that before! I'm still getting the hang of it and its hard to find time to practice with my busy schedule but even with the little time we've spent together I can confidently say that my playing has improved.

Jeff knows his music theory and explains it in great detail. For a beginner guitar player he makes it fun to play. He definitely knows his country and has great tips. Awesome experience

He's a seasoned and experienced teacher who has very good background in music, which enables him to teach not just how to learn chords and notes, but how to fingerpick play from the heart.
